Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A is a liver disease caused by the hepatitis A virus (HAV).

HAV is usually spread from person to person by putting something in the mouth that has been contaminated with the stool of a person with hepatitis A.

Vaccination: Is given as one injection. A second dose of this vaccine is required after 6-12 months to provide immunity for approximately 20 years. ‘Booster?injections are needed approximately every 20 years to provide continued immunity.

Protection: After one dose nearly one year. A second dose of this vaccine after 6-12 months provides immunity for approximately 20 years.

Side effects includes:

• Redness around injection site
• Hardening of skin around injection site
• Weakness
• Headache
• Loss of appetite
• Fever
