Moldova

Moldova has been an independent nation since 1991. The capital, Chisinau, offers adequate hotels and restaurants, but tourist facilities in other parts of the country are not highly developed, and many of the goods and services taken for granted in other countries are not yet available. Moldova is a democracy with a freely elected government.

CRIME: Moldova's economic difficulties in recent years, as well as increased organized criminal activity and more frequent travel by foreigners to Moldova, contribute to the risk to visitors of street crime and other crime, potentially involving violence.

MEDICAL FACILITIES: Medical care in Moldova is limited, and there are severe shortages of basic medical supplies. Elderly travellers and those with existing health problems may be at risk due to inadequate medical facilities.

• HIV

Vaccination recommended:

• Hepatitis A or Immune Globulin
• Hepatitis B or Immune Globulin
• Rabies - if risk for contact with wildor domestic animals
• Tyfoid fever if staying in remote areas
• A booster for tetanus/diphtheria - if not covered which indicates not vaccinated within th last 10 years.

Prevent illness by:

• Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water.
• Drink only water from cans or boiled water
• Wash and/or peel all raw vegetables and fruits before eating.
• Use uncontaminated water to wash all food that is to be eaten raw.
• Use latex condoms for protection against sexually transmitted diseases
