Guinea-Bissau

Travellers who decide to travel to Guinea-Bissau should exercise a high level of caution. Since there are minefields in Guinea-Bissau left over from the civil war, travellers should not leave designated roads and pathways. There are frequent power outages in the capital, Bissau, and the lack of lighting at night makes careful driving necessary. Although there is a fairly low incidence of normal daytime street crime, travellers should refrain from walking alone at night and should observe security precautions in the city, particularly with regard to pickpocket activity in marketplaces.
