Mefloquine
Indications : This medicine is an antimalarial agent used to treat or prevent malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum, which is resistant to other antimalarial agents.
Directions for use : Treatment of malaria is initial 750 mg followed by 250 mg given eight hours later. For prevention of malaria the dosage is 250 mg given once a week starting one week before departure and terminating four weeks after leaving malaria- regions.
Pregnancy: may not be used.
Side effects : may include dizziness, nausea, and loss of appetite, stomach pain, diarrhoea, or headache. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience vomiting, rash, ringing in the ears, muscle pain, seizures, confusion, emotional or mood changes, agitation, or hallucinations. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
