Relapsing Fever

Bacteria known as spirochetes, Borrelia recurrentis, closely related to the organisms that cause Lyme disease cause relapsing fever. The bacteria may be transmitted to humans by either ticks or lice. The disease occurs in Ethiopia, Sudan and in South America.

Manifestations: The illness is characterised by periods of:

Alternating with periods when the fever subsides and the person feels relatively well.

Diagnose and treatment: Diagnose is demonstrated on blood test. Treatment is available.
