Chlamydia pneumoniae  

The bacteria Chlamydia pneumoniae.is the cause of this disease. The disease is transmitted from person to person by respiratory secretions. Reinfection throughout life appears to be common. C. pneumoniae infection may be associated with atherosclerotic vascular disease. Associations with Alzheimer’s disease, asthma, and reactive arthritis have been proposed.

Manifestations: Pneumonia or bronchitis, gradual onset of cough with little or no fever.

Diagnose and treatment: Diagnose is based on bloodtest . Treatment with antibiotics is available.

Vaccine: Not available

Prevention: There are no known methods to prevent infection or possible sequelae
