Pickpockets
Turists are potential victims of crime and to reduce chances of becoming the next victim of pickpockets remember to:
- Carry your purse under your arm
- Carry your money under your clothes or in a front pocket
- Never carry large amounts of cash. Leave what you don't need in your hotel safe
- Do not leave your jacket or purse on the back of a chair
- Don't travel in narrow alleys or poorly lit streets.
- Before leaving your hotel, ask if there are any parts of town to be avoided.
- If you are bumped or distracted by a stranger, be aware that a pickpocket may be targeting you. Stay alert.
- When possible, avoid having crowds of people surrounding you.
- Do not leave your luggage unattended when paying the taxidriver or check-in at the hotel.
- Be aware entering a public train or bus.
