Safe Food and Drink
Contaminated food and drink are common sources for the introduction of diarrhoea. In areas where hygiene and sanitation are inadequate, the traveller should be advised to avoid salads, uncooked vegetables, and unpasteurised milk and milk products such as cheese, and to eat only food that has been cooked and is still hot, or fruit that has been peeled by the traveller personally. Undercooked and raw meat, fish, and shellfish can carry various intestinal pathogens.
The following might be safe to eat and drink:
Beverages, such as tea and coffee, made with boiled water. Canned or bottled carbonated beverages, including carbonated bottled water and soft drinks. Beer and wine. Food that has been cooked and is still hot, Fruit that has been peeled by the traveller personally Reduce risks from food and drink by:
Drink only water that you have boiled or treated with chlorine or iodine. Other safe beverages include tea and coffee made with boiled water and carbonated bottled beverages with no ice. Avoid undercooked or raw fish or shellfish. Make sure all vegetables are cooked Avoid salads. Do not eat from a buffet that has been allowed to stand for several hours at ambient temperature Do not consume food and beverages obtained from street food vendors
